BPE students PE charter! We are looking forward to another great year of Physical Education at Bridge Point! Our schedule allows us to have students in the gym every third day on an A, B, C rotation with Art and Music. Classes are 50 minutes long and our goal is to stay as active as possible during that time! Our curriculum will include developmentally appropriate skills which will be taught through a variety of games and activities. Most of our classes are in the gym and taught by PE Teachers, Ms. Dean and Mrs. Pate. Throughout the year there may be guest teachers or groups that come in to lead or demonstrate for the students. There are also several special events throughout the year that the PE Department sponsors. Be looking on the BPE calendars for information about Kite Days and May Madness!
Proper clothing/foot wear for Physical Education Appropriate shoes and clothing are important for student's safety and enables them to demonstrate their best skills. We want everyone to be ready and able to do their best and have FUN in P.E.! Appropriate clothing for PE: 1. Loose comfortable shorts or pants (sweat pants, loose jeans, leggings) 2. Comfortable shirt (may need to be tucked in during gymnastics) 3. Athletic shoes (no crocs, sandals, Tom's, Sperry top-siders, boots, backless, slip-on or roller tennis shoes) ******P.E. class is always the day after music class, so plan ahead and be dressed to participate!****** Students that forget to wear athletic shoes may not be allowed to participate in some activities due to safety. When students are unable to participate, their participation grade is effected. So remember to wear your tennis shoes and come prepared!
What if my child can't participate in PE? If there is an occasion that your child cannot participate in all or part of the P.E. activities due to an injury or illness, please send a parent or doctor note to our school nurse. If your child is not feeling well enough to participate and needs to sit out of the activity that day, just jot us a note or email us. Students who do not have a note will be expected to participate as much as possible! If your child will be out of physical activity on a long term basis, we will connect with the nurse and administration to possibly make other arrangements for them during their PE time.
LEADER OF THE PACK is back!! One student from each Physical Education class is chosen each day as the "Leader Of the Pack". The Leaders of the Pack are students who we see demonstrating exceptional "Life Skill" qualities, plus trying their very best. BPE Life Skills include being responsible, persevering, making healthy choices, showing integrity, caring for others, showing compassion, demonstrating respect, citizenship and conservation. In P.E. we encourage and are always looking for good sportsmanship and teamwork as well. Students who exhibit these qualities are recognized in P.E. class with a Leader of the Pack certificate.
