My name is Natalie Smith and I am so excited to be your child's art teacher this year. I graduated from St. Edward’s University with a Bachelor of Arts in art and education. I am starting my thirteenth year of teaching at Bridge Point. I am lucky because I get to work with my best friend, Mrs. Lee (the other art teacher at BPE). When I am not in school I enjoy spending time with my husband, Ian, our nine year old daughter, Keely, our 4 year old son, Hue, and friends. It is my goal to teach children how to observe and interpret what they see in attractive and/or meaningful ways, just as they can learn the elements involved in creative writing or playing sports. In order for them to do so, they need to be given the tools that will help them develop their personal expression, creativity and style. The elements of art are like numbers, words, or musical notes- they are the basics, which are manipulated and combined in different ways to achieve an artwork. In art class, each student learns about the art elements: line, shape, color, texture and space.
Art Announcements:
Our art activities and projects can be very messy, so encourage your child NOT to wear their favorite clothes to Art class:) Art is every third day in this order: PE, Art, Music. Just ask your child if it's an Art day. Thanks! -Mrs Smith
